Personal Finance and Financial Literacy

Take control of your financial future! This guide offers resources for financial literacy and recommendations for books on personal finance.

Financial literacy is a learned skill. A person's first experiences with money may start with a lemonade stand, earning an allowance, or starting their first job. However, financial experts say that it starts earlier than that; around 5-years-old. Those early experiences shape a person's attitude toward money later in life. Given that it starts so early, poverty, race, and gender are often factors that can create barriers to people learning about personal finance. This guide is meant to help adults who want to sharpen their personal finance skills, inspire teens who need some guidance in getting financially independent, and to encourage parents who want to start those discussions about personal finance with their children.

In this guide I have provided books and resources about personal finance, financial literacy, and various subtopics of the subject. My intention is to provide accurate information on personal finance but it may not apply directly to your individual situation. I am not a financial advisor and I recommend you consult with a financial professional before making any serious financial decisions.
